Made it to NAMM
Submitted by Kenny D on Wed, 01/16/2008 - 00:21.
I just pulled into the Anaheim convention a few hours ago and have started setting up. Despite it being in Hall E, aka, the Basement, our booth is in a pretty decent location - right by one of the main registration desks. Alas, the banner has been raised!
The first person I met was Mike Greene, President of RealiTone. It's their first time at NAMM, too. He's got some virtual instruments going. Check 'em out here. As I was setting up, I noticed that the carpet was quite dirty. There were candy wrappers, wire strippings, and spent sunflower seeds all around.
Anyway, I asked one of the service associates if they planned on vacuuming before the show starts, he replied, "did you order vacuum services?" Gad! This place is like New York City, every step you take, money is just flying out of you. Now, I'll go ahead and suck it up that we're paying $1,345 for 4 days of Internet service (yes, you read that amount right), but can you at least deliver a carpet installation that is clean? We didn't even get to muck it up ourselves!
Well, I went up to the service offices and after some minor haggling they agreed to vacuum it. "This time we'll do it, but next year you need to expect to order vacuum services," I was told. OK, I'm not going to extend it out - I got what I wanted and I'll deal with next year when it happens.
So Internet is up and running and I plan to post daily w/picks - check back!
